The 2nd LaSIGE Workshop will be held in January 18, 2017 and aims at reinforcing the connections among its members and the scientific community.
Various works of its members will be presented during the event, that also count with invited lectures by Prof. Patrick Olivier, founder and leader of the Open Lab research center, and Prof. Luís Caires director of the NOVA LINCS research center.

Francisco Couto presented the talk "Towards a privacy-preserving environment for genomic data analysis" at iMM - Instituto de Medicina Molecular, under the seminars series dedicated to the topic "Computational Biology and Bioinformatics".
Carlos Duarte participated as invited speaker in the last edition of the NEM Summit, an international conference on Media and Content organised by the NEM Initiative, where he presented the talk with the title “Universal is not enough: going back to Personal”, at the first time in the history of the event that was hosted a session on media accessibility, named "Accessibility - Is it the greatest challenge in the media industry today?".
Teresa Chambel was invited Keynote Speaker at WebMedia 2016, a symposium that took place on November 8-11th, 2016, in Teresina, Piauí, Brazil.
Teresa Chambel is Member of the ACM TVX - "ACM International Conference on Interactive Experiences for Television and Online Video" Steering Committee, since 2016.
Nuno Neves will participate as primary chair of the "Security and Privacy" track at the upcoming conference CloudCom 2016 - The 8th IEEE International Conference on Cloud Computing Technology and Science, one of the most selective IEEE conference on the Cloud area, that will occur next month from December 12th to 15th, 2016, at Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.

On October 16, Teresa Chambel participated as Workshop Chair in the AltMM 2016 - 1st International Workshop on Multimedia Alternate Realities, where she also chaired the "Welcome and Introduction" and the "Consumption and Evaluation" sessions.
Teresa Chambel is editor of the Special Issue on "Immersive Media Experiences" of the Multimedia Tools and Applications Journal by Springer, October 2016.
LaSIGE's team won the 2016 edition of the EDP re: dy challenge.
The team, constitued by Pedro Ferreira and Fernando Alves, also had the collaboration of Professor Antonio Ruano of University of Algarve.
The European Space Agency (ESA) published the billion-star map, develloped by Márcia Barros. The map is the first catalogue of more than a billion stars from ESA’s Gaia satellite – the largest all-sky survey of celestial objects to date.
The work that lead to the map, "A pipeline to produce a scientifically accurate visualisation of the Milky Way" by Márcia Barros, Francisco M. Couto, Hélder Savietto, Carlos Barata, Miguel Domingos, Alberto Krone-Martins, and André Moitinho, was recently presented at INFórum 2016.
