LxMLS demo day counted this year with LaSIGE's participation in this informal gathering that brought together a number of highly technical companies and research institutions alongside students from serveral Portuguese institutions, all with the aim of solving machine learning problems through technology.

The event that took place last July 25th, 2016, was hosted in Salão Nobre of Pavilhão Central of IST - Instituto Superior Técnico, and was organized under the 6th Lisbon Machine Learning School.

The organization of the seminarBig Data, Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Ciência Aberta (Big Data, Sustainable Development and Open Science), invited LaSIGE's PhD student, André Lamúrias, to present a talk about his work within the field of the Biomedical Informatics research line.

The event that took place at Lisbon, Portugal, in June 23rd, 2016, was co-organized by the IHMT - Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical (Portuguese Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and Institut Français (French Institute).

"A tecnologia que guia os cegos" (The technology that guides the blind) is a VISÃO magazine article that highlights the best of what is being done in Portugal for the development of new technologies for blind people.

The work by Tiago Guerreiro, in collaboration with Hugo Nicolau, within the context of the BRAILLE 2.1, a series of research projects focused on the development of tools that facilitate writing braille alphabet to smartphones was titled as "pioneering work" by the magazine!

Teresa Chambel was invited, with two other Professors from the FCUL Informatics Department, Pedro Veiga and Luís Correia, to participate as invited speakers at the first E-Tech Portugal conference, held in early June 2016, in Setúbal, Portugal. Teresa Chambel participated in the panel gathered around the topic "As TICE têm Sexo ?" (Does ICT have gender ?), with the objective to raise the awareness and interest of the Portuguese society about the importance of the participation and success of women in the area of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

LaSIGE is supporting the organization of the iV 2016 - 20th International Conference Information Visualisation that aims to focus on the interdisciplinary methods and affiliated research done among various science disciplines, medicine, engineering, media and commerce.

The event, that will occur in Lisbon, Portugal, from 19 to 22 of july 2016, will focus on the research and developments conjured to meet the roaring demand of today’s "Information Transfer".
