Health and Biomedical Informatics Meetups are monthly gatherings of LASIGE members with interests in Bioinformatics, Chemoinformatics, Text Mining, Biomedical Decision Systems and related topics.

Title: Multi-domain semantic similarity
Presenter: João D Ferreira

The European Project  "XIVT - eXcellence In Variant Testing" (Call: ITEA3 Call 4 – Smart Engineering), of LASIGE is a part of, started this month.

The project is coordinated by Gunnar Widforss from Bombardier, Sweden and includes 24 partners from both european and canadian academia and industry. LASIGE is the only partner to provide expertise in software project secutirty and application of Natural Language Processing on software testing.

AgreementMakerLight (AML) achieved top performance in several tracks of the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative 2018 (OAEI), a competition run yearly at the International Semantic Web Conference. AML is an ontology matching system developed by LASIGE in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In 2018, AML maintained its top ranking position at OAEI in several tracks, and obtained the best results in the newly introduced tracks, consolidating its position as the leading ontology matching system.

The 5-year European Project "CIRCLES – Controlling mIcRobiomes CircuLations for bEtter food Systems" (Call: H2020-SFS-2018-2020 Topic: LC-SFS-03-2018 – Microbiome applications for sustainable food systems – IA Innovation action) starts today. Sara C. Madeira coordinates LASIGE’s team, participating in all tasks in work package “Bioinformatics and systems biology: data storage, data integration and microbiome modelling”, and leading task “Modelling of microbiomes across food chains in relation to covariates and metadata”. The project coordinator is Marco Candela, UNIBO – University of Bologna, there are 30 participans from academia and industry all over Europe. FCiencias/LASIGE is the only Portuguese participant.
