The 7º edition of INFórum - Simpósio de Informática, this year organized by Universidade da Beira Interior, will occur from September 7 to 8, 2015, and besides the participation of António Casimiro and Antónia Lopes in the Coordinating Committee, as President and as member respectively, counts also with the participation of LaSIGE researchers in all the thematic sessions of the symposium, that aims to be a key event for meeting of the national community in the various aspects of informatics and aims to become the preferred forum for the dissemination, discussion and recognition of scientific papers.
The Best Early Career Paper Award at the International Conference on Biomedical Ontology 2015, held in Lisbon (July 27-30), was awarded to Catarina Martins, Ernesto Jimenez-Ruiz, Emanuel Santos and Catia Pesquita. The paper, with the title "Towards visualizing the mapping incoherences in Bioportal", is a collaboration between LaSIGE researchers and Oxford University. The award was sponsored by PeerJ.
The LxMLS - 5th Lisbon Machine Learning School, hosted in IST, from July 16 to 23, had an special session, on July 21, dedicated to demos.
The session counted with an demo from LaSIGE, aiming of solving machine learning problems through technology.
LxMLS Demo day is an informal gathering that brings together a number of highly technical companies and research institutions alongside with students from LxMLS and other Portuguese institutions.
On last July 21st we received the visit of Dr. Boris Koldehoje who's been working in Publish/Subscribe and it's currently Managing Director of Collaborative Research Centre 1053, MAKI - Multi-Mechanisms Adaptation for the Future Internet, at Technische Universität Darmstadt.
Teresa Chambel is co-organizing the Immersive Media Experiences Workshop @ACM Multimedia 2015, taking place in Brisbane, Australia, on October 26-30, 2015.
This international workshop was created by the chairs, from LaSIGE @ULisboa, INESC-TEC, UTAustin, MIT Media Lab and BBC, at the premier international conference on multimedia: ACM Multimedia. This is the 3rd edition of the workshop, after the first successful editions in Barcelona, Spain, in 2013, and in Orlando, FL, USA in 2014.
The next W4A 2016 - 13th Web for All Conference, to be held in Montreal, Canada 2016, will be co-chaired by Tiago Guerreiro from LaSIGE and Greg Gay from Ryerson University, Canada. The conference is going to be held in Montreal, Canada, co-located with WWW 2016.
The next GLOSS Seminar will be presented by Juliana Franco, an ex-Gloss/LaSIGE research member, who his currently pursuing her PhD at Imperial College of London, UK. Her talk, with the title "Ownership and Reference Counting based Garbage Collection in the Actor World", will occur at FCUL|DI room 6.3.05, next thursday, July 2nd, 2015, at 11h30m.
