The cyber‐physycal systems (CPS) area has a wide scope and encompasses many research challenges to be addressed during the next decade. Several strategic documents and agendas refer to the application of CPS technologies in key areas, such as transportation, energy, healthcare, aerospace, and cities. The LASIGE research line on cyber-physical systems addresses several aspects of CPS, namely functional, human, trustworthiness and timing. Key focus areas include architectures and mechanisms for dependable environmental monitoring using sensor networks, system solutions for offline verification and online monitoring of security- and safety-critical embedded real-time systems, mechanisms and policies for efficient and adaptive interactions among entities in fog computing scenarios, protocols for safe coordination of vehicles in autonomous driving scenarios, and visual analytics techniques and tools for exploring heterogeneous data sets from complex cyber-physical/smart systems and making these more transparent to end users.
