LASIGE owns several workbenches for supporting experimental work.

Implementation and test of distributed applications

A workbench that includes a DELL Power Edge 2300 server (PIII 500MHz, 128M RAM, RAID, 18GB SCSI), 8 PCs DELL Optiplex Gx 110 (PIII 500 Mhz, 128M RAM, 8.4GB, two 3COM network adapters, DIMM 128M extra), several operating systems downloadble from the server during initialization using PXE) and 3 Pentium IV 2.4 GHZ (SMP 2x), 1GB RAM, 65 GB RedHat Linux;

Database Replication

A workbench that includes a TYAN Barebone Server Dual AMD Opteron 2.2GHZ 64 bits 4GB RAM 2 disks SATA 250GB each RAID 1 RedHat WhiteBox Linux 64Bits. 3 Servers Dell PowerEdge 750, Pentium IV 2.8GHZ, 2Gb RAM, 2 disks SATA each RAID 1, RedHat Whitebox Linux 32bits.


Bioinformatics

A workbench based on a processing server, PIV, 2.80GHz, 896MB RAM, Linux (RedHat 7.3), MySql, PHP, Java, CPLEX.

Web Data Management

The infrastructure that supports the Tumba search engine and related 8 medium-scale servers plus 6 small servers that are used for crawling. All the machines run the Linux operating system. A substantial part of tumba! is built on open source software. New servers are now being added to cope with the increasing demand for the Portuguese Web search service. Usability testing

The workbench supports information acquisition for usability testing. It includes microphones, a couple of cameras (one autonomous one fixed), an image duplicator (SVGA to PAL plus SVGA), a Quad (4 PAL signals multiplexer), a monitoring television, a couple of VCRs, two PCs with video capture boards and a DVD recorder.

Interactive TV

The workbench support development and testing of interactive television applications. It includes a PC server, a SetTopBox and a TV, and can be integrated with the Usability Testing workbench for evaluation purposes.
